Oz Open Day 4 Winners and Losers

Hero of the Day – Laura Robson

Could it have been anyone else? The British women’s game keeps on rolling down under, it wasn’t pretty – not buy a long stretch, but it was gutsy and at times inspiring stuff. Kvitova is in something of a mire of course, but take nothing away from Robson’s performance, another prestigious scalp claimed. She also claims the Comeback kid of the day award after returning from 0-3 down in the decider.
Marathon match of the Day – Andreas Seppi (21) defeated Denis Istomin; 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-3), 6-2
Robson/Kvitova could have taken this gong too but that would be greedy. For sheer length this veteran battle takes it, but honourable mentions for Monfils/Lu, Tomic/Brands, Dodig/Nieminen and poor James Duckworth’s second successive 5-setter this time falling to the wonderfully named Blaz Kavcic.
