A brief one for you all as I witnessed precious little of today’s matches, but again things went somewhat against the (my) expected grain!
Dominika Cibulkova def Agnieska Radwanska 6-1, 6-2
In what looks to have been a case of fatigue, Agnieska who admitted to exhaustion post-match had no answer to the fresher Cibulkova;s monster groundstrokes. Expect the no-fear Slovak to give Li Na a real test in the final – could be anyone’s for the taking.
Li Na def Eugenie Bouchard 6-2, 6-4
The Chinese dictated play throughout and soon raced to a 5-0 lead before the surely nervous Bouchard got into her stride. Though the first set couldn’t be saved things were much tighter in the second, but Li’s constant barrage of winners coupled with that all important experience proved vital. Bouchard will reach such heights and possibly more again though we can be sure.
Stanislas Wawrinka def Tomas Berdych 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6
Such a tight scoreline is no surprise given the 7thand 8th seeds close proximity in the rankings. The final ‘points won’ count saw the Swiss with 143 to the Czech’s 142. Things really did boil down to the slightest of errors. Berdych’s two double faults in the third set breaker perhaps proving most costly of all.
