When I launched the new AllThingsTennis in early January I promised a new post every day. Apologies then for nothing over the weekend due to illness.
A brief one here, and a roundup of the world group fed cup matches which saw the results by and large go by the grain.
I predicted correctly bar the tricky Belarus Vs Germany tie, which was as close as expected and which saw the Germans prevail in a tight encounter.
The Czechs somewhat dismissed the Swiss (Bencic will be disappointed) with Petra Kvitova’s heroics a highlight. The U.S downed the Dutch with Venus starring once again and Vandeweghe notching a confidence boosting win. Serena was back but looked every bit like a 36 year old returning from having a child. But it’s early days of course.
Lastly, a shout out to Kristina Mladenovic who proved the catalyst for France’s victory over Belgium, a tour de force performance from a player who needs to return to form on tour.
