Serve and volley, once a dying art,
How close we came to losing you,
In the modern game, you had no part,
In an era of power, for a time it was true.
The art of the chip and charge,
Finesse and grace,
Replaced by a baseline barrage,
Athleticism and pace.
How many pure practitioners remain?
Alas now, still too few,
As a main tactic, most now refrain,
New technology, equipment and surfaces too,
Yet despite all these pushers and baseliner sloggers,
You’re still in the game,
Delighting us fans and wannabe bloggers,
Long may you remain.
