NEWS: New ‘old’ world number 1 Federer making yet more history

In what many saw as an inevitability, Roger Federer today reached the semi finals of the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam and in so doing became the oldest player (male or female) to top the rankings.

In a way I’m glad then that his opponent Robin Haase made some people begin to panic as the talented Dutchman surprised the Swiss with the first break points converted and the first set taken 6-4.

An expectant crowd were hushed but normal service resumed soon enough as the next two sets flew by with minimal fuss 6-1 6-1.

A ceremony ensued and a whole host of tribute articles sprouted from the twittersphere. None better than this lovely little collection of facts from tennis.com

All hail the king….again!
