Next week sees the refreshingly different/shameless cash-in Tiebreak Tens tournament return, this time in the fitting arena of Madison Square Garden.
The stellar line up of current players and a few retirees sprinkled about – all contributing to a list designed to appeal to as many demographics worldwide – has some mouth-watering names.
Strangely, some of the juicier ties are first up on the schedule, including Venus vs Svitolina and – to the point Serena vs Marion Bartoli.
Now, while this will give us a good match in an almost throwback sense, it offers up a few more questions. The result itself will not be indicative of either player’s struggles when they get back to the Real Thing.
Serena may struggle, or she may steamroller everyone – it is always an unknown with her. But i think it is something of a cert that poor Bartoli will not adapt well. The game is always getting more powerful and more athletic – but especially now the WTA is in it’s most rudest of health – hell we aren’t really missing Serena at this point.
I await to be proven wrong.
