Although the usually squeaky clean James Blake has shown a rather lackluster amount of concern and conviction into investigating her claims, Caroline Wozniacki’s assertions of crowd abuse in Miami warrant a closer look.
Sport can heighten emotions and ignite passion in us all; and whilst tennis fans are at least not outwardly as consumed by their sport as say football (soccer) fans, tempers can fray and things get shouted out.
The level of abuse Wozniacki has reportedly heard has no place in any sport, but especially in one with an intimate arena and with the combatants fighting solo without ten other players to rally with.
Let’s hope this is a one-off ugly incident and that tournaments big and small remain vigilant or if anything get tougher.
