Angelique Kerber looked to have the better of Simona Halep after another 1st set where the Romanian looked a little distant. Moreover, the German just outplayed her at times, taking a 4-0 lead before a fightback by the number 1 seed made it interesting. But unforced errors crept in from Halep again and Kerber took it on the breaker.
After that, Simona cut out the errors and reigned in her opponent in a patient performance.
