In the least competitive match of the day, Naomi Osaka looked extremely solid as she dismantled an arguably already broken Lesia Tsurenko 1 and 1.
All the Japanese had to do was stay solid before her opponent – who has been brilliant en route here including that memorable win against Wozniacki – made another error.
Keys outlasts creative Carla
Again last year’s finalist looked good here, soaking up the flair and angles of Suarez Navarro and calmly powering her way through each exchange.
Suarez Navarro’s best days are probably gone now, but this was a fine resurgence and you never know what lies ahead.
For Keys though, this could be her year, or equally she could tank in the next round; we just never know with her.
Revenge is sweet for Nishikori after 2014
In a match of fluctuating momentum set by set, it was Nishikori who prevailed in five after his opponent seemed to tank a little bit.
Cilic has arguably the bigger, better game and one more capable of dictating a match, but Nishikori’s offence proved just as clinical here. Cilic doesn’t have such defence to rely on if his attacking game isn’t proving effective.
Djoko far too good for Millman
Adopting Roger’s ressurection of the volley to great effect, Novak was never really troubled here and looks by far the sharpest competitor left.
Millman brought nothing from his previous win to the party here, there was no sign of that rip roaring backhand cross court. But then Novak was too good anyway.
