Elsewhere there were good wins for Halep, Pliskova, Kerber, Bencic, Keys and Svitolina (clearly this is the stronger half of the draw) but Jo Konta is out, again no real shock there.
Rafa Nadal breezed through and there were confident wins for the other contenders Zverev, Medvedev and Thiem. Wawrinka and Kyrgios both prevailed and Gulbis dumped out Auger-Aliassime.
