Wimbledon 2021: Day 3 sees some seeds slip up and others stake their claim amidst more Murray mania

Well it is certainly an enjoyable ride whilst it lasts, Andy Murray was up to his old tricks and defying the odds on Centre Court. Late into last night, the two-time champ channelled his guile and defensive mastery to overcome German qualifier Oscar Otte in five sets. A rested Shapovalov up next should have too much for the Scot but we’ll wait and see.

But Murray himself had a performance to match in the previous battle before his own on Centre. Britain’s Katy Boulter shone in her 3 set battle against 2nd seed Sabalenka, the Brit having so much more variety and grass court nous, but not the power of her opponent who couldn’t be more different a persona off the court.

Elsewhere, as Djokovic cruised and Isner slipped and fell like so many others, we lost Andreescu (a shock, to Cornet), Kenin (to Brengle) and sadly Venus to the in-form Jabeur.

Tennis couple Monfils and Svitolina both survived tough tests and the likes of Berrettini, Swiatek, Giorgi and Karolina Pliskova are all making low-key but impressive progress. The latter dismissing the grass specialist Vekic with minimal fuss.
